Galaxy print first became a trend back in 2011 when it appeared on the catwalks and now, a year later and the high street are finally playing catch up with everyone from River Island to Urban Outfitters selling the design. Here we show you how to make your own galaxy print t-shirt.
Making your own galaxy print t-shirt is actually surprisingly easy you just need a few key items. The first thing you’ll need is a top you want to customise the effect probably works best on a black t-shirt but feel free to mix it up. Next you’ll need a spray bottle bottle filled with bleach, an old tooth brush and some white fabric paint.
Step 1: Lay a plastic bag on the inside of the t-shirt to stop the bleach spreading to the other side of the t-shirt and then place the t-shirt only another layer of plastic to protect whatever surface you are using.
Step 2: Use the spray bottle of bleach to spray patches of bleach at random all over the front side of the t-shirt.
Step 3: Put your hair dryer to a low setting and move it over the t-shirt, after a short amount of time you’ll see theĀ beginningsĀ of the galaxy pattern beginning to form.
Step 4: If you want to make your pattern more detailed, twist the t-shirt slightly in the middle and then spray more bleach over and around the twist. Once you’ve untwined it you’ll notice that the galaxy print in the centre of the t-shirt will appear like a cluster of stars.
Step 5: Put some of the white paint onto the end of an old toothbrush, preferably one that’s been used so the bristles are frayed slightly and lightly flick it at random onto the t-shirt. Doing this will create the effect of tiny stars.
Step 6: Leave over night to dry and the next day rinse it out with cold water and leave to dry again. This will set the pattern and get rid of the smell bleach can leave behind. Once it’s dry again it’s ready to wear.
Don’t forget that you can also add other colour paints to break up the colours a bit. Happy creating!
