In between getting ready to have his work put on display at the Tate, Damien Hirst has found time to make plans to open his first public gallery in South London.
The gallery, which will house his personal art collection, is due to open its doors in 2014 and will be made up of six galleries and a cafe. Talking to the Observer Hirst said, ‘It’s my Saatchi gallery, basically’ as he also revealed works from him, Banksy and Jeff Koons will all be exhibited in the space.
The Hirst gallery is due to be opened in Newport Street, Vauxhall and will be used to exhibit Hirst’s collection of contemporary art with up to 2000 pieces being put on display. The news comes just a few weeks ahead of the first retrospective of Hirst’s work which is due to open on 4th April at the Tate Modern in London.
