While North London battled through a power cut East London was having problems of its own this afternoon after a fire started in Canning Town.
Eight fire engines and 40 fire fighters were said to be battling the blaze in Canning Town at a a pallet yard and a scrapyard on Ives Road this afternoon. The fire comes just a few days after another big fire took place in London earlier this week.
Speaking to the Evening Standard about the fire the station manager Jim Morford said, ‘This is the second large fire to hit the capital in twenty four hours. Several calls were received by the Brigade’s control officers from members of the public who could see the huge plume of smoke rising from east London. Fire crews are at the scene and are working really hard to bring the flames under control. We’re obviously keen to prevent the fire from spreading to other industrial units.’
It’s not thought to be effecting tubes but if you travelling through there on your way home it might be worth double checking with TfL.
