In a time where everything seems to be being affected by budget cuts it surely seems a little excessive to hear that Boris’s Cable Cars will be costing the London tax payers 6 million to run in the first year alone.
It turns out that once the glamour of the Olympics wore off not so many people are using the cars as expected as their preferred form of London travel.
The operating costs of the cable cars come in at a staggering £500,000 a month and with it being used mostly as a tourist or novelty traveling solution it’s really not paying its way. Boris now wants to re-market the dangling pods as a viable commuting option to get more people swinging across the Thames.
180,000 people were using the cable cars a week during the Olympics and this has now dropped to just 300 a day meaning approx 2000 a week.
Arnie may have taken a ride on them in the summer but now that winter’s hit the cynical London public just ain’t buying it.
