Bukki Ojo started her clothing line in July 2011 at only 18 years old, and it has grown leaps and bounds since then. Her first collection named ‘Afro’ sold out on ASOS Marketplace and now the ethnic/80s label Bukki has its own concession store in Topshop on Oxford Street.
The idea behind the collection is the intertwining of cultures, the combination of vintage denim and African prints aim to give these prints a more modern twist, bringing them into the 21st century. Bukki Ojo herself talks about how she particularly wanted it to appeal to young people to bring these prints into a different culture. She wanted a comfortable high street range who’s urban look offers something new.
Vintage denim is one of the two main features of her collection because she sees the product as timeless. Along with that are the prints she designed give an original and creative look, all achieved at such a young age.
She designs for men and women so anyone will be able to find something in this collection for them. Many items from the collection are describe on their Facebook page as unisex so don’t shy away from it, mix it up! This shirt has a cool vintage look to it, the print with the denim is a great combination.
These denim shirts are really in right now and give you that vintage look that you can now find on the high street. The African born, London based designer created this look after being rejected from London College of Fashion, bet they are kicking themselves now!
If denim isn’t your thing they have more recently released a collection of jersey t-shirts with African prints still the main feature in the designs.
My personal favourite however are these gorgeous denim shorts! Perfect in for the winter with a pair tights. I’ll definitely be getting my hands on a pair of these!
It’s no wonder Topshop has snapped this collection up, well done Bukki!
