There was a time when it might have been cool to wear a Ferrai branded hat. I can’t remember when that time was but I am certain that it happened.
There is clearly a reason why so many brands decided at one stage that they just had to branch out into the fashion game. The fact that people bought these clothes in earlier years I blame on the lack of social networking sites. How else, before the ‘like’ button could you tell a load of people that you don’t know that you liked something? Enter the brand branded T… etc.
So the question is when did brands give up? Why doesn’t Google have a line of hats? Why doesn’t someone suggest to Blackberry that they should make a fetching line of T-shirts or maybe Tesco could make some polo shirts (oh no sorry, they have a full clothing line already). The answer is (unless you are Ferrari) around the end of the 90s.
There was a tim before this when people would walk around in clothing and not care that they looked like they still had their work uniform on, our society was happy in the oblivious non-knowledge that by wearing these items, much like fashion slogan Ts they were promoting a large corporate brand on their back.
We all laugh at the woman that got the casino name tattooed on her head for a load of money but at least she didn’t pay them for the pleasure!
But back to the point at hand, and what you no doubt want to see – some old photos of some branded shit.
Here you go.
Apple had a branded line – yep. They, because they are Apple, did a trendy shoot with it too. And actually I know people, including myself that would wear some of it today. Funnily enough the second image could be mistaken for an American Apparel ad.
This is part of the afore mentioned Ferrari line:
And here are some nice Harley Davidson leather jackets…. Mmmm
