As the Olympics become shrouded in controversy over drug taking athletes, Twitter trolls and empty seats we decided to take a more up beat look at the Olympics through the words of Boris Johnson.
As we all know the Mayor of London isn’t famed for keeping his mouth shut when it comes to saying silly things. Described in the past by many as a ‘bumbling fool’ Johnson’s whole image is based around the fact he’s a pretty intelligent man who just happens to say really, really ridiculous things.
With that in mind and as something to entertain you this miserable Tuesday afternoon here’s our pick of Johnson’s best Olympic quotes. And by ‘best’ we mean ‘most ridiculous’…
A couple of our favourite quotes have come from the Mayor in the last few days. These include him describing the women’s beach volleyball players as ‘glistening like otters’ after a downpour and announcing he thought that UK players had been very polite ‘in not hogging the medals board so far’.
Speaking of the UK athletes Johnson recently said, ”Inspire a generation’ is our motto. Not necessarily ‘Create a generation’, which is what they sometimes get up to in the Olympic village.’ Which we think you’ll agree is amazingly inappropriate and therefore utterly brilliant.
‘Get some burgers, or else, you’ll be eaten by bears’ this was Johnson’s advise after it was announced McDonalds was one of the Games sponsors.
‘The whole of the outside of this building is lovingly rubbed with rhubarb’. This one is so good that we’ve popped a video of it below for you.
‘Olympo-mania is going to go zoink!’ Hands up who knows what zoink or Olympo-mania is?..
There you have it. Just a few of our favourite quotes. More to come shortly no doubt…
