Still confused about what BB Creams are or which one you should by? Our beauty writer Luke Stephens explains…
If you have been sleeping under a rock for the last three years, then you won’t be aware that there has been an explosion of BB Creams hitting the market. Once the well kept beauty secret of East Asia, it has been a bit of a revaluation to the world of beauty.
So what is a BB Cream? Started in Germany by a dermatoligst as a solution to ‘problem’ skins that were particularly sensitive to cosmetics, and skin that had been through some serious cosmetic procedures, the Blemish Balm was sold to clients as something they could use safely, that would provide covergae, that protected their skin.
Adopted very quickly by Korea as the ‘Actress’ Secret’ some heavy publicity quickly made it a massive success. Now, it tends to be called ‘Beauty Balm’ (sounds nicer) and creams vary form NOT being a BB cream, (more like a tinted moisturiser) and as close to the original as possible.
The latest BB cream to cause a stir is Dr.Jart+ which hit the shelves of Boots just last week. Already a well established brand in its native Korea, Dr.Jart+ has been gracing the faces of women (and men) there for over 8 years.
With the simple philosophy of one BB cream does NOT suit all, they have developed a multi-benefit cream that will address any skintypes needs in one hit.
There are four in the range, all specifically designed to suit your skin whether it’s a youthful teenage complexion just looking for a light coverage and a bit of moisturisation, through to slightly more dense coverage, with added skin benefits for anti wrinkle and reducing the appearance of fine lines.
The ingredients in these are top notch, as you’d expect in any skincare, but with the added benefit of a bit of coverage and an essential SPF. As if that wasn’t enough, the most expensive one in the range is £24. Get thee to a Boots now!
The dewy finish of the Water Fuse Beauty Balm, £18 with advanced Beauty Bead technology, and Aloe Leaf Juice, for a lightweight coverage.
The Regenerating Beauty Balm, £21, is excellent for more sensitive skins, JoJoba seed oil, and don’t panic, a snail secretion extract to boost hydration!
Platinum Beauty Balm, £22, is ideal for those showing the first signs of ageing. A super protective balm to even out skin tone, and provide anti oxidant protection from Blueberries.
Finally, the Premium Beauty Balm, £24, for the older among us. With a high SPF of 45, and Bio-Peptide Complex to really target skin imperfections, and age spots, this is the ultimate in high performance anti ageing BB cream.
