Who remembers the days when you were younger and imaging stories for your Barbie and Ken dolls? Well a Canadian artist has taken things one step further for her latest photo series.

For her new photo project, The Dollshouse, Dina Goldstein explores the down sides Barbie and Ken’s relationship using models to act out scenarios that lead to Ken coming out the closet to poor, distressed Barbie.

In one image we see Barbie dreaming about being in the arms of a handsome soldier while lying next to her Ken is having the exact same fantasy. It also shows the plastic couple getting ready in the morning (naturally Ken hogs the whole mirror) and Barbie sitting on the side of the toilet while she watches Ken shave his legs in the bath.

The whole point of the photo series seems to be to explore what would happen if Barbie discovered that Ken was gay and lets face it who didn’t suspect the exact same thing when they were little? Ken was always way too well groomed and immaculate to have been genuinely interested in Barbie.
