Yep that’s right ATM’s are getting a shake up. Some people are already coming face to face with what the banks are calling an ATM cyborg.

Is this the start of Skynet? It’s all a little scary and somewhere in between Holly from Red Dwarf and the Happy Happy Joy Joy ATM from Demolition man.

The new ATMS include a screen that shows the head of a bank teller that is positioned in a remote location connected via webcam. This means that ATMs will be able to handle more tasks thank before such as cashing cheques.

This is the newest option banks have to save money by not having to house banks tellers in expensive locations. It means they will also be able to have staff on hand out of hours (probably as they will be based in different countries) and apparently will cut down crime seeing as it’s pretty hard to threaten a member of staff that isn’t really there.

It also means a new name might be coming for the ATM, PTM (personal teller machines).
