Charlie Penrose is a London based visual artist who has been making a name for himself recently for the of text within his pieces.
With works that aim to explore the various goals, facets and intricacies of human existence Penrose has been asked to take part in the UK Young Artists showcase in Nottingham this month. Ahead of his appearance we caught up with him for a chat…
Where do you live?
Brixton, London
Tell us about yourself?
Not unpleasant if sometimes grating, noisy extrovert who says a lot but might not always have that much to say.
When did you first find out you had a talent?
I talk a lot of shit – I don’t know that you’d call it a talent. More regularly than is probably right I get the opportunity to make something that people look at and think might have some intellectual value or significance, but usually doesn’t.
What inspires you?
The Internet and lunch, not necessarily in that order.
What are the tools of your trade?
My Mac, Google, Adobe Creative Suite and having no attention span or idea of when to pipe down.
How did you lean your craft?
20 something years of time-wasting and asking pointless questions
Do you have any notable fans?
My Mum
Tell us a fact about you that no one knows?
I’m too verbose for that, I don’t think there’s anything about me that NO ONE knows.
What else do you have coming up in 2012? Any exhibitions/shows?
I’m taking part in a show in the Aferro Gallery in the US and various things in the pipeline in London – keep an eye on charliepenrose.com for details.
