Do you want an everyday persons break down of Apple’s fancy new products, well here you go.
On Monday there was WWDC12, which to most means nothing at all…but for the Apple fanboys/girls of the world, this is one of the most important days of their year.
Why? because its at WWDC that Apple like to announce some of its new products and software. So, here is a WJ style guide to whats new, and what it all means for those less likely to have an orgasm over a computer thats not even looking at porn.
So, what was the most exciting news?
New Macbook Pro
Unlike previous updates, this one comes with a little more than just a fancy new connection port. No, this time Apple have actually made quite an effort. It includes :
New Super Thin Look
The Macbook Pro has clearly gone on a diet and managed to make itself almost as thin as the Macbook Air, under an inch thick at 0.71 inches, its enough to make other laptops turn to bulimia.
This obviously also makes it a lot lighter (only 4.5lbs) so carrying it back and forth from the library, park, coffee shop etc will be less of an issue.
New retina display
And not only does the new Macbook Pro look good…but erm…it looks good? This new display boasts an amazing 2880 x 1880 resolution, so you’re screen will be so clear that you might actually notice the underlying mental issues on your Facebook stalkers profile pictures and delete them before they upload photoshopped pics of you an them holding a baby (ps, Mary, go away, we did NOT even kiss let alone have sex!)
New graphics card
Having a powerful GeForce GT 650M graphics card in your laptop will mean one of two things, you will either use its power in a productive way and find that editing video, photos or illustrations is less of a strain for your computer….orrrr you’ll be find yourself hiding from the sunlight after night long sessions playing video games with amazing graphics on an even more amazing screen (read below about new Moutain Lion features to why its more likely going to be for the latter)
Other impressive spec updates
Nice new i7 2.7Ghz Quad-core Processor, 16gb Ram and up to 768GB of SSD Hard Drive space mean your Macbook Pro will be running faster than your niece after a sugar overdose. To break it down in a way that might excite you, as I write this summary i’m on my self customised 2.5ghz Dual Core Processor Macbook Pro with 8gb Ram and very 250gb SSD Hard Drive and when I turn this baby on from shut down, it powers on and is ready for use in just 20 seconds…so imagine how fast the new one will be. Not to mention that SSD Hard Drives are a lot quieter as they don’t have moving parts, so expect next to silence from your machine.
Finally, Bluetooth 4.0, so sending files over bluetooth will be faster. USB 3 so transferring files to an external drive will copy over faster and finally, HDMI port, so you can plug your Macbook Pro into a TV.

THE NEW MACBOOK AIR
Basically has a new Ivy Bridge 2.0ghz processor, 8gb Ram, 512gb SSD Hard Drive, USB 3, HD Camera and boasts about having 60% faster graphics (but does not state having the same graphics card as the new MBP) so in short, its just a bit faster and runs more like a Macbook, rather than a pretty limited notebook.

THE NEW OSX OPERATING SYSTEM, MOUNTAIN LION – Out July
After Lion became Apple’s most successful selling operating system, the pressure was on to create something new worth paying £20 to upgrade for, so…what did they come up with?
Messages
Now with Mountain Lion on your computer you can send friends who have iPhones or iPads messages from your computer (and vice versa) so for example if you can’t be bothered to reach for your phone while browsing the net, you can text their phone in a Skype like message service for free…yes…free, so you can imagine why phone companies are now worried about not being able to bill us for SMS charges, thanks Apple for saving us money.
Notification Center
I’m not sure if this will be a good or bad thing, but in short, when someone messages you on Facebook, Twitter, Emil or by their iPhone etc it will show up on the side of your screen much like when you get a Facebook notification. Hopefully this will be optional or customisable as constant notifications could be annoying when trying to work.
Reminders and Notes
There will be no more excuses for forgetting birthdays, shopping lists etc as what you note down on your computer, will automatically be sent to your phone and vice versa. Along with images and sounds attached if you wish…this could be a whole new Frape type experience in the making when computers and phones are left unattended, expect to get a reminder to ‘shave your mums back hair on tuesday’ etc out of the blue one day in a meeting.
Power Nap
In short, while your computer is off, it will now do all the boring things like update itself, check for new emails and even back itself up while you sleep…sadly it won’t do all your work for you while you sleep yet but thats something i’ve personally requested for future updates.
AirPlay Mirroring
Yay finally something exciting. Those of you that own an Apple TV and iPhone or iPad might already be aware of what AirPlay is, but for those of you missing out…prepare for the main reason to fork out for this new Operating System.
AirPlay basically sends what you see on your screen (via your WiFi) wirelessly to your Apple TV, and it is then mirrored onto the TV you have in use with it. Soooo, what that means is, when playing games (with the fancy new graphics card) watching movies on the internet or just browsing the net, you can now do it all on your massive TV….yes, your favourite sites on a 50″ TV!!!….what?…we mean WhosJack.Org of corse…get your mind out of the gutter jeeze.
Other Mountain Lion features worth mentioning include
Game Center, so think X Box Live or PSN on your Mac so you can add/find friends to play games with together. Documents in iCloud, so you can now save files onto your iCloud space making them accessible online when you forget your computer.
And thats about it, aside from obvious software like Photoshop, Final Cut Pro etc getting a revamp to take advantage of the new super sharp Macbook Pro display, there wasn’t much else mentioned. A new Mac Pro which is pretty much the most powerful computer on this earth but the price is so ridiculous we didn’t bother covering it.
I’m sure you can now understand why I have put my current Macbook Pro, my cat, my sofa and my great auntie Stella on Gumtree. If you’re interested comment below, Stella makes a mean cup of tea.
