The AW12 menswear catwalks were all about animals. Whether it was a looming shark emblazoned on T-shirts and sweats at Givenchy or a more quirky dinosaur intarsia from Jil Sander, animal motifs are officially On Trend.
In this case, a dog is just for Christmas, not for life, but we reckon our picks are wearable enough to carry through to next season. Because, you know, who really chucks all their clothes out biannually anyway?
As you might expect, man’s best friend is pretty popular, making it on to this Givenchy hoody (£295) and, more affordably, on tees (£20) and sweatshirts (£26) at independent design house Grizzly Nights. Likewise, wolves are featured heavily: this Blood Brother tee is available from Urban Outfitters for £60 and Markus Lupfer’s barbed wire framed wolf is £90 at Harvey Nics; GRRR.
If you prefer your animal motifs a little less aggressive, there are quirky illustrated bird tees at Grizzly Nights, while this McQ Alexander McQueen tee and more subtle Topman swallow top are both good nods to the twitcher trend.
With even kittens and bees represented –yep, we’re already all about Bees In Fashion – there’s an animal motif for everyone.
And if you’re brave, the leopard print trend which has flooded the womenswear market for as long as we can remember is making some hits in menswear, too. If £150 is a bit much to spend on this Just Cavalli leopard print top, Topman has one for £18.
With all these options, you’ll be hard-pressed not to find yourself adopting at least one animal this season.
