We talk about Christmas so early each year, we may as well talk about next years Christmas as well. Piccadilly might be getting its own giant snow globe just in time for Christmas 2013.
The giant globe has been proposed to cover London’s Eros statue as it is being damaged more and more by vandals and graffiti. The snow globe dome would be 36ft (11m) high and inflatable. We just want to know whether they are going to add a wind machine and some snow during the festive periods. It could then look a bit more like this :
BBC news spoke to Wildstone, the outdoor advertising agency as they drew up the plans. They said that the snow globe would provide a “historical precedent and provide a high quality structure to protect Eros over the Christmas period,”. Of course let’s not ignore the new adverts surrounding the base of the statue once the globe is in place.
It is the Christmas period that is worst for the sculpture so it does make sense to cover it up and preserve it. The Eros statue was added to Piccadilly Circus in 1892 as a memorial for Anthony Cooper, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury who did a lot of good work for the poor.
