London, or rather Boris is desperate to get us travelling over and by river it seems. What with cable cars being the last push now it has been announced that three new piers are to open by 2020 to encourage river travel.
Transport for London’s (TfL) River Action Plan includes the building of the piers, the first of which will be at Plantation Wharf in Battersea and will open later this year. Two more, one at Battersea Power Station and one at Enderby Wharf already have planning permission.
Contact-less pay will also be introduced to river travel with Boris Johnson saying : “The River Thames played a major part in the success of a momentous 2012 and I am determined to capitalise on these achievements and safeguard the river’s central role in the future achievements of our great city.”
